News Update

Community Calendar For Wednesday, March 12, 2025

Community Calendar Report for Wednesday March 12th, 2025.

First, some news…

From a story on the WCMU website – Northern Michigan ski resorts are experiencing a “phenomenal” 2025 season, which stands in stark contrast to last year’s disappointing conditions[1]. The National Weather Service in Gaylord has recorded nearly 186 inches of snow, breaking previous seasonal snowfall records[1].

Resort officials highlight that consistent cold temperatures and regular snowfall have created ideal skiing conditions. Ben Doornbos, general manager of Nub’s Nob Ski area in Harbor Springs, described the season as “magnificent” and noted that they’ve maintained good conditions consistently thanks to six weeks of below-freezing temperatures and plenty of fresh snow

Team BIROBOT is  already gearing up for their next challenge! This coming weekend (Friday through Sunday), they’ll be competing at the Berrien Springs District Event.

NAME OF DAY: The BIC Center Name of the Day is Barney. If that’s your name, head on down to the BIC Center to pick out a free drink of your choice.

BIRTHDAYS: Happy Birthday today to Kevin Boyle and Liz Schwandt and if we missed you on the list, Happy Birthday to you, too, from everyone at WVBI and your Beaver Island Community Center! [And, here’s a way to send special birthday wishes to someone on the island:  The B-I-C-S National Honor Society will put up a sign in their yard in exchange for a donation of $10 or more to the Build a Cure for Cancer fund. Contact N-H-S president Alyssa Martin for more details. You can reach her through the front desk at school.]

TRAFFIC: None. But the roads are super slick after the snow and glaze of icing yesterday. So, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

On this day in 1933, eight days after his inauguration, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gives his first national radio address—or “fireside chat”—broadcast directly from the White House. At the time, the U.S. was at the lowest point of the Great Depression, with between 25 and 33 percent of the workforce unemployed.

Our Merriam Webster Word of the Day

Multifarious – Something described as multifarious has great diversity or variety or is made up of many and various kinds of things. Multifarious is a formal word and a synonym of diverse.

// He participated in multifarious activities throughout college.

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Wednesday

Here’s a thought for the day – Decision is the spark that ignites action. Until a decision is made nothing happens.

On a lighter note –  I gave my handyman a to-do list, but he only did jobs 1, 3, and 5. Turns out he only does odd jobs.

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Wednesday, March 12th, 2025. I’m Greg Doig reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
