First, some news…
Today is election day with just two things on the ballot. Both are proposals concerning funding for Career and Technical Education programs in the Char-Em Intermediate School District, which includes Beaver Island Community School. The first proposal would continue the existing point 75 mills levy that supports the core Career and Tech program. First approved in 1996 and continuously renewed by voters since then, it supports a variety of programs including business skills and medical training on the island as well as summer camps and construction training equipment available to island students. It also supports internet connectivity.
The second proposal would add point 25 mils to expand the program with funding to support additional and expanded programs, transportation for both programs and tours of colleges and technical training centers, and wages for private sector C-T-E instructors among other things.

Now, here’s a look at what’s happening on your island…
Here’s your meeting planner for the week: St, James Planning Commission meets Tuesday evening at 6:00 at their township hall. Peaine Planning Commission meets Wednesday morning at 9:00 at their township hall. St. James Finance meets Wednesday at 1:00 at the governmental center. B-I-C-S Committee of the Whole meets Wednesday evening at 5:30 at school. Meeting details are in the calendar entries online.
On the fun front today, Tuesday, Tai Chi is on up in the Hangout at 9:30. Pickleball is on at 10:00 in the Theater. The Arthritis Foundation Exercise program is on at 10:30 in the Hangout. Tuesday is also Open Mic Night at the Harbour Bodega. Sign-up at 6:30. Performances start at 7:00. Special snacks available for a freewill donation alongside the full Bodega menu.
Wednesday, senior Chair Yoga is on up in the Hangout at the BIC Center at 10:30. And, Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 it is Time for Art at the BIC Center. This week’s project is papermaking.
Thursday, Tai Chi is on at the BIC Center at 9:30. Pickleball is on, too, in the theater from 10 to noon. Games Galore is on up on the Hangout from 1:00 to 4:00.
Friday, Pickleball is on—in the Theater at the BIC Center at 10:00. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is on up in the Hangout at 10:30. And, at 12:30 it is time for BINGO brought to you by the C-O-A.
Saturday, Nothing but Needles is on at Peaine Township Hall. Start time is 9:00. Saturday evening, the movie at the BIC Center is Superintelligence starring Melisa McCarthy and James Corden. A superintelligence is studying the planet to decide whether to blow it up. Great comedy with rave reviews. Rated PG, so fun for the whole family. Concession stand will be open for snacks, a meal or both. Trailer is on the BIC Center website at bic center dot org.
Sunday there are services at Holy Cross, the Christian Church, and the Lighthouse fellowship. Times and more details are in the calendar.
