Community Calendar For Friday, November 22, 2024

Community Calendar for Friday, November 22nd, 2024.
First some news…from the BI Forum
The Ellen Welke Memorial Toy Drive is Happening Now!

Toys need to be new. Please don’t gift-wrap them. That will be done after determining for which child the toy is best suited. (We need toys from infants to high school.)

You can drop the toys off to Connie Boyle at home, leave it in her car (or Neal’s) or the collection boxes at Island Airways Airport Terminals on Beaver Island or in Charlevoix.)

The main date to donate toys by is DECEMBER 7th. But we will keep collecting toys all the way up until Christmas. The 7th gives the Dept enough time to make sure all children on their list are “covered” – in case they need to go shopping.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Connie Boyle (231-448-2491)

TRAFFIC: None. But, let’s be careful out there.
On this day John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, is assassinated in 1963 while traveling through Dallas, Texas, in an open-top convertible.
First lady Jacqueline Kennedy rarely accompanied her husband on political outings, but she was beside him, along with Texas Governor John Connally and his wife, for a 10-mile motorcade through the streets of downtown Dallas on November 22. Sitting in a Lincoln convertible, the Kennedys and Connallys waved at the large and enthusiastic crowds gathered along the parade route. As their vehicle passed the Texas School Book Depository Building at 12:30 p.m., Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly fired three shots from the sixth floor, fatally wounding President Kennedy and seriously injuring Governor Connally. Kennedy was pronounced dead 30 minutes later at Dallas’ Parkland Hospital. He was 46.

Our Merriam Webster Word of Day
Paroxysm( PAIR-uk-sih-zum) is a formal word that refers to a sudden strong feeling or uncontrollable expression of emotion. In medical use, paroxysm refers to a sudden attack or increase of symptoms of a disease that often occurs repeatedly.
// The comedy special sent us into paroxysms of laughter.

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Friday…
Here’s a thought for the day
If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breather the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal. (Commencement address at American University, June 10, 1963) John F. Kennedy
On a lighter note…
I have a strange fear of Tsunamis, but it comes in waves!

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Friday, November 22nd, 2024. I’m Greg Doig reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
