WVBI COVID-19 Update for September 16, 2020

Health Center report this morning shows four more tests run.  Plus one back negative.  That puts current totals at 177 tests run, 167 back negative, four pending and six positive.  None of those are active cases on the island.

 

Governor Whitmer says recent rallies held by President Trump violate her executive orders.  She says he is luring people to what she calls “super-spreader events.”  Her orders include exemptions for First Amendment protected activities.  No explanation from the governor on how the Trump rallies are a problem but the large protests she has participated in are not.  According to public health officials, both are potential problems.  They say all close gatherings of unrelated people raise the risk of coronavirus exposure.  

 

State health officials have reported a total of 571 new confirmed cases yesterday.  There were 11 new deaths. That brings the total of conformed cases to 113,183.  Of those 20,463 are active.  Death toll stands at 6,612. The seven-day running average for new cases is up to 767.  Average for deaths is up one to 11.  M-I Safe Start Map shows a state-wide positive test rate running average at 3.6%, which is at the bottom of the medium risk zone and the average new case per capita rate state-wide is at 51.4 per million, which is at the low end of the high risk zone.

 

Our region had five new cases in the last two reports.  None in Charlevoix. No new deaths. Overall total of cases in our region is now at 1,005 of which 373 are less than 30 days old. Rolling averages are nine new cases a day and no deaths.

Safe Start data for our zone show the positive test rate at 2.2%, which is in the low risk zone.  The number of new cases per million is 19.1, which now back down to a medium risk rating.
