Weekend Community Calendar for Friday, February 14th, 2020

From studios in the BIC Center on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the WVBI Weekend Community Calendar for Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14th, 2020.
Now, here’s what’s happening on your island…
This evening, Syd Burnham is playing at the Shamrock this evening for your Valentine’s Day dinner and to kick off the Beaver Island Winter Carnival. She is starting around 8.
Tomorrow is packed with Beaver Island Winter Carnival events. Ice fishingdown on Lake G with the 5th annual Wildlife Club Ice Fishing contest. In town, indoor and outdoor activities and games for kids here at the BIC Center starting at noon, a luminary walk and bonfire at dusk, and Syd Burnham again at the Shamrock starting at 8. Chamber President Paul Cole was our guest on Beaver Island Perspectives this afternoon with the scoop on all the Winter Carnival events. If you missed that, you can listen to the show as a podcast. Also tomorrow, Pickleball at the BIC Center from 10 to noon. Then, the resale is open from noon to 4. And Special Winter Carnival movies at the BIC Center. We’ll have a special showing of Home on the Island at 1. That’s a film about the connection between the island and Arramore Island in Ireland. At 4, keeping with the Winter Carnival theme, the show is Disney’s Frozen. It’s rated PG and seeing it will get you up to speed for our showing of Frozen Two here next month. At 7, we’ll have on on-screen concert. It’s the story of Linda Ronstadt on the Big Screen with the Big Sound. Linda Ronstadt The Sound of My Voice is the title of the show with all her classics and a great story to go with them. Rated PG-13. Concession stand will be open for snacks, a meal or both—for both movies. Plus, special treats available for the winter carnival’s downtown events. Sunday, services at Holy Cross, the Lighthouse Fellowship and the Christian Church. Times and details are on the calendar.
Next Tuesday, Tuesday, Pickleball at the BIC Center 10 to noon. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program in the Ray & Ann Stanhope Hangout here at the BIC Center from 10:30 to 11:30. Waste Management Committee meets at 1:00 at Peaine Township Hall for their regular monthly meeting. Day ends with Ladies Shuffleboard at the Shamrock. Pucks hit the boards at 7.
Next Wednesday, the Everything to do with Needles gang will get crafty at the Peaine Township Hall from 9:30 to noon. The Joint Telecommunications Advisory Committee meets at school at 5.
Next Thursday, Library Board Meets at 9 at the library. Pickleball 10 to noon. Community C-P-R training at the Health Center from 1:00 to 5:00. Are you certified in C-P-R? No? Don’t wait until you wish you were. Sign up for this calss by giving the health center a call at 2275. Also next Thursday, Ladies’ Shuffleboard at the Shamrock at 7.
And, a reminder to you photographers out there—tomorrow is the deadline to get your three best shots in for this year’s Everyone’s an Artist photography contest being organized by Lois Stipp and the Beaver Island Gallery. Contest details are on the calendar.
