The weather did in the outdoor kids games and Luminary Walk on Saturday, but the fun and games continued inside with lots of prizes awarded. Syd Burnham was playing at the Shamrock. And the fishing went well down at Lake G. Speaking of gnarly weather, we’ve got some snow on the way tonight. We’ll get to that, but first…

Rated approved in the ratings of the day, but probably PG by today’s standards. And at 4, get ready for West Side Story—the stage classic brought to the big screen. It’s rated Approved, too. And at 7, it’s a modern story of gangs in New York City: Twenty-one Bridges is the show and it will keep you glued to your seat with suspense and action. It’s rated R. Concession stand will be open for snacks, a meal or both—for all three shows. Trailers for the movies are on the BIC Center website at BIC Center dot org.

ON THIS DAY in 1966 The Beach Boys begin recording ‘Good Vibrations’. Previously purveyors of sunshine-and-sand pop tunes, The Beach Boys begin recording what is arguably their greatest and most blissfully complex song, thanks mainly to the work of their frontman, Brian Wilson. Also on this date in 1972, the 15,007,034th Volkswagen Beetle comes off the assembly line, breaking a world car production record held for more than four decades by the Ford Motor Company’s iconic Model T, which was in production from 1908 and 1927.
WORD OF THE DAY: probity (PROH-buh-tee) which means an adherence to the highest principles and ideals : uprightness. Probity and its synonyms honesty, honor, and integrity all mean uprightness of character or action, with some slight differences in emphasis. Honesty implies a refusal to lie or deceive in any way. Honor suggests an active or anxious regard for the standards of one’s profession, calling, or position. Integrity implies trustworthiness and incorruptibility to a degree that one is incapable of being false to a trust, responsibility, or pledge. Probity, which descends from Latin probus, meaning “honest,” implies tried and proven honesty or integrity. (
Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Monday…

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for Monday, February 17th, 2020. I’m Kevin Boyle reporting from the pest free Hogarth Pest Control Studios of the Voice of Beaver Island wishing you a great day and asking: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And, thanks for listening.
