Summer is Here!

The (un)official first weekend of summer is here and we’ve got the official Beaver Island soundtrack for it on the island’s community radio station – WVBI. This weekend that soundtrack includes a Songs of Summer Top Ten + Five Saturday morning at 10:00 that, in addition to a count-down of the top 15 hits of summer, will count up the range of concerts, plays, tours, lectures, art shows, kids camps and other activities on tap this summer on America’s Emerald Isle. On Sunday evening at 7:00 tune in to hear radio theater as the Lighthouse School Mafia Radio Players present Prometheus: Mythic Hero…or Wise Guy. It’s a Greek classics refresh and a laugh riot in one completely created by students.

But wait, there’s more. Much more. Friday evening, after you get home from seeing The Boarding House on the stage at the Beaver Island Community Center, tune in at 11:00 p.m. you can hear the island’s own Rich Warren host the Midnight Special — folk music and farce, show tunes and satire, madness and escape.

On Saturday evening at 5:00 join host Sheri Timsak for Country Classics followed by Celtic Connections at 7:00, The International Americana Music Show at 8:00 (if you aren’t taking in the second performance of The Boarding House at the BICC), Mark Beltaire and Rockin’ the Boat at 9:00 and Full Moon Hacksaw at 10:00.

On Sunday afternoon at 1:00 get your classical on with Collector’s Corner unti 3:00. Then, Sunday evening, its Phil Becker and Sunday Night Oldies followed by the radio play at 7:00 and an encore of our Saturday night programs at 8:00.

Saturday morning starting at 6:00 a.m. feed your mind with Worldlink, a look at today’s headline stories through the eyes of those wrapped up in them. That’s followed at 7:00 by Inside Europe and at 8:00 by Living Planet. On Sunday morning you can hear encore presentations of Worldlink and Inside Europe (same times). Then at 8:00 tune in to hear Interfaith Voices, the latest addition to our weekend lineup.

The rest of the weekend you can enjoy our famous Cottage Mix—pop, rock, country, oldies, Celtic, Beaver Island artists and jazz so that everyone in the cottage gets to hear something they like.

And, if you are trying to keep track of all the events on the island, just dial up the WVBI website on your browser and click on Calendar for a complete rundown of what’s happening on the Emerald Isle.

It’s all on WVBI—the Voice of Beaver Island. Listen on the island at 100.1 FM and worldwide at www.wvbi.net.
