After almost 30 years of service to us, Joe has retired. This is something he’s wanted to do for the last two years, but kept postponing because he put the needs of the island ahead of his own. Words can’t describe his dedication, the countless people he’s helped and the service he’s given us. Thank you, Joe. Your skill and dedication will be sorely missed.
We are working on improvements to the parking area at Welke Airport. We are trying to relocate as many cars as possible to a new temporary parking area. We have started parking all cars south of the terminal. Do we have your keys? Please give us a call or send us an e-mail if your car is here but we do not have keys. Thanks

Did you know that Icelandic phone books are listed by first names (not surnames)?
Word of the day: egalitarian (ih-gal-i-TAIR-ee-uh n) which means asserting or characterized by belief in the equality of all people, especially in political, economic, or social life. Egalitarian entered English in the 1880s as an alteration of equalitarian with the French égal replacing equal.
A couple of CMU Students named Lianne and Olivia asked me to say Happy birthday to their friend Miranda today. So, Happy Birthday Miranda.
Joyce Bartels passed away peacefully days short of her 91st birthday. Born in Flint, Michigan to Thomas and Edna Ackerman and raised in Grand Blanc, Michigan. She was valedictorian of Grand Blanc High School class of 1943 and studied civil engineering at Purdue University.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Harold, her brother; William, and two half-sisters; Margaret (Peggy) Ashbury and Ruthie Wadsworth. Joyce was the mother of Elizabeth, Karl (Sandra), and Amy (Richard); grandmother of Galen, Karen, and Melissa; and great grandmother Connor, Payton, and Emma.
She was a member and/or officer of numerous local and national civic, historical, conservation, and environmental organizations and a tireless volunteer. Memorial services will be held at a later date at Haslett Community Church and on her beloved Beaver Island. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman, Lansing Chapel. On-line condolences may be shared at www.grlansing.com .
Still no delays to report.
Hey, Let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.
To Lucas and all our listeners, a quote from Ben Franklin seems appropriate today, “Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.”
On a lighter note, What kind of tea did American Colonists thirst for? Liberty!
