INTRO
Today is Monday, January 11th, 2016. I’m Greg Doig with today’s WVBI Community Calendar.
NEWS
We’re pleased to let you know we have a spiffy new website for WVBI.
- You can use it to listen online with a built-in station player that can provide you all sorts of information about the music we play. You’ll find song lyrics, album and artist information and more. To listen, just press the play button in the station player bar at the bottom of the page.• There’s also a Community Calendar with information about events all over Beaver Island. We’re trying to make it complete with entries for BICC sponsored events as well as other events sponsored by other island organizations — including BICS, BIHS, the Chamber and the BI Cultural Arts Society, among others. We’ll also have entries for island board meetings that are open to the public. Want to see your event on the calendar? Just send us an email at calendar@wvbi.net.
• Keep up on what’s happening at WVBI with our news posts. You’ll find news about events on the station and at the BICC plus the text of our daily current events updates.
• Want to know what’s on when at the station? There’s complete program schedule with detailed information about all of our programming.
• Have an idea for a show or want to make a suggestion? Use the handy contact form.
But, enough reading about it. Dial it up and have a look at www.wvbi.net
Mark your calendar! Join us February 26th for the 2nd Annual Alumni Basketball Tournament and Chili/Soup Cook Off
If you would like to join a team or sign up to enter your most awesome Chili or Soup call Carol @ 231-838-2883
This event is sponsored by the Beaver Island Sports Boosters. Our goal is to purchase BICS athletes new Soccer uniforms, an outdoor timer for the Soccer games, Platform for our Volleyball Refs, and new mats for the gym. All donations will go directly to these items for our Beaver Island Community School Sports Program.

Radio Players News
We met, and are planning another meet Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Community Center. All interested please attend.
Basically, we looked at scripts and are encouraging all to look at some on genericradio.com to bring to discussion. Scripts we looked at include a Burns and Allen, Buck Rogers, The Creaking Door and one of the Lights Out series.
Depending on player numbers we’d like to tape 1-2 a month to be aired whenever the radio station wants to do so. Little rehearsal, no memorization, lots of fun… please join us.
If you can’t make it but are still interested, please let me know.
Jacque
P.S. We are considering some for the kids to do too. If you find any, please bring them along. Some have expressed an interest

Did you know that the chart you look at when you take an eye exam is actually called a Snellen chart?
Word of the day: inveigle (in-VEY-guh l) which means to entice, lure, or ensnare by flattery or artful talk or inducements. Inveigle entered English as a variant of the word envegle from the Anglo-French enveogler. Ultimately it derives from the Vulgar Latin aboculus meaning “eyeless.”

Community Needs and Wishes
A PayPal account donation button has been set up for those off-Island to help out Tom Whitman. He was injured in a fall, and will probably be wheelchair bound for six to eight weeks. Deb LaFreniere is working on meal lists for those that might be able to help with dinner deliveries. For those not on the island or unable to do this, another option is to donate to this fund.
Here is a link to the Beaver Island News on the ‘Net Donation page where you can make your donation by Clicking on the Tom Whitman Donate Button.

Help if you can, please!
Roads
Snow has made another appearance around these parts, along with some colder air, so as always, let’s be careful out there.
That’s the WVBI Community Calendar for Monday, January 11th. I’m Greg Doig at WVBI – the Voice of Beaver Island.
