More today on the bodies found at a remote camping site on Isle Royale earlier this month. A murder-suicide is now suspected in the deaths of a father and son. The FBI is investigating, but officials have withheld the victims’ names, saying release could jeopardize the case. The bodies were discovered June 8 by hikers at South Desor Lake Campground. Isle Royale remains open, with no threat to the public reported. Rock star and hunter Ted Nugent blasted Michigan’s DNR during testimony to lawmakers this week, accusing the agency of driving hunters out of the state with “anti-nature” policies. He called for looser hunting limits, expanded bow season, and an end to baiting bans. Nugent said overregulation is fueling deer overpopulation, crop damage, and car crashes. The DNR pushed back, saying the drop in hunters is a national trend and they’ve made changes to encourage more doe harvests. The agency also defended its Russian boar ban, which Nugent has fought in court. The Island’s Sustainability Fair and Dark Sky Sanctuary earned some recognition in a piece from Rachel Rademacher on TV 9&10 yesterday. Rachel was on the Island for the Fair and met up with leaders of Michigan Auroa Chasers who were here for the fair and, of course, to chase auroras and enjoy the Dark Skies. Noted in the coverage was the fact that the Island’s Dark Sky Sanctuary is one of only 22 on the planet. There’s a link to the coverage in today’s script online.
