First some news…
A group of injured veterans took part in an adaptive ski and snowboard clinic at Boyne Mountain Ski Resort in Charlevoix County.
The event was organized by Semper Fi and America’s Fund to support veterans’ physical and mental health and rebuild a sense of camaraderie. [upnorthlive]
 
An Antrim County traffic stop on US‑131 near Mancelona Township led deputies to seize about 55.8 grams of meth and 10.5 grams of suspected fentanyl.
The two arrested suspects include a Charlevoix County man and an Emmet County woman; charges include maintaining a drug vehicle and delivery of meth and fentanyl. [upnorthlive]
 
The Beaver Island Wildlife Club’s annual Lake Geneserath Ice Fishing Tournament is on February 21st. Prizes will be awarded for pike and bluegill, with a special prize for the smallest pike. Starts at daybreak contact Levi Connor if you can bring a dish. Bait and food will be provided
 
Ben Traverse and Nick Veine will perform at the BIC Center on March 12th at 6:30 p.m. to kick off Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations. Tickets are $20, with free admission for kids 17 and under. Tickets.biccenter.org

On this in 1846, 89 emigrants, including the Donner and Reed families, set out from Springfield, Illinois, for California. They chose the “Hastings Cutoff” at Fort Bridger, Wyoming, but were stranded by snow in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. People got really hungry and then The story got worse from there.
