From our Langford Family Studios on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the W-V-B-I Community Calendar Report for Friday, November 14th, 2025.
|
|
First some news…
Michigan’s 2025 firearm deer hunting season is Nov. 15–30, with hunting allowed statewide on both public and private land. Hunters must report deer harvests online, and updated regulations, including safety rules and disease testing (for EHD, CWD, and bovine tuberculosis), are available through the DNR and Hunt Fish app. Overpopulated deer areas or those with disease spread ask hunters to target does. Community initiatives include deer donation drives, hunter appreciation days, purchasable deer patches, and a statewide hunting raffle. Full resources and contacts are provided by the DNR.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is collecting public feedback about traffic and pedestrian safety on U.S. 31 in Charlevoix.
MDOT is seeking comments from the public to address ongoing concerns.
Previous work to improve downtown Charlevoix has included:
New center left-turn lane
Upgraded traffic signals and crosswalks
Improved bascule bridge
The department is looking for additional ideas to further enhance traffic flow and safety.

|
|
On this date in 1851, “Moby-Dick” was published, and it’s now celebrated as a classic of American literature, especially for its iconic opening line: “Call me Ishmael.” But back then, the book about Captain Ahab’s hunt for a giant white whale didn’t quite hit the mark.

Our Merriam Webster Word of the Day is Peremptory, a formal term, is employed particularly in legal contexts to denote an order, command, or similar directive that mandates immediate compliance without providing any opportunity for justification. Furthermore, it is employed disapprovingly to characterize an individual exhibiting an arrogant demeanor or something indicative of such an attitude.
//The company’s president tends to adopt a peremptory manner especially at the negotiating table.

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Friday…

Here’s a thought for the day – There was never a good war or a bad peace, wrote Benjamin Franklin

On a lighter note my waitress said, wanna box for your leftovers? I said no, but I’ll wrestle for them.
