Community Calendar for Monday November 17, 2025

Community Calendar Report for Monday, November 17th, 2025.

First some news…

In November 2025, three new Boyne City commissioners—Bridget Foltz, Rebecca L. Houser, and Jennifer Beano Hampton—were elected and sworn in. Bob Farrell was chosen as mayor, and Rebecca L. Houser became mayor pro-tem. A controversy followed when the commission hired a new city manager, Sam Demel, before the newly elected officials took office, prompting criticism from some residents. The previous city manager, Mike Cain, was dismissed in March, and an interim manager had served pending the new appointment. Elle Cole, initially offered the position, declined before Demel was selected and hired. Source: Petoskey News Review

BIRTHDAYS Today Cathy Jones is on the list. Happy Birthday to Cathy, and if we missed you on the list, Happy Birthday to you too from everyone at WVBI and your Beaver Island Community Center!

TRAFFIC: The W-V-B-I phantom news chopper reports…no traffic.  But, as always, let’s be careful out there, especially in the school zone.

On this day in 1821, Missouri Indian trader William Becknell arrives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, sells his goods at an enormous profit and makes plans to return the next year over the route that will become known as the Santa Fe Trail. It would become one of the most important and lucrative of the Old West trading routes across the Great Plains, helping to enable America’s western migration. Merchants and other travelers continued to follow the trail blazed by Becknell until the arrival of trains in the late 1870s.

Our Merriam Webster Word of the Day is  crucible, in the word’s literal use, is a pot in which metals or other substances are heated to a very high temperature or melted. But crucible is more often encountered in figurative use referring to a difficult test or challenge, or to a place or situation that forces people to change or make difficult decisions.

// The bronze was heated to 2,100 degrees in the crucible and then poured into molds designed by the artist.

// Her latest novel follows two best friends in a fantastical, battle-ravaged kingdom who emerge from the crucible of war with opposing views and values on what should come next.

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Monday…

Here’s a thought for the day – rule your mind or it will rule you.

On a lighter note… Some people only get sick on work days…It must be their weekend immune systems
