First some news…
Great Lakes Energy offers scholarships for students pursuing careers in electrical linework, engineering, and IT.
The lineworker program scholarship, previously available through Alpena Community College and Northwest Lineman College, now includes any accredited lineworker program in the US. Up to six $1,000 scholarships are awarded annually.
Students pursuing electrical engineering or IT degrees receive two $2,500 scholarships each. Michigan residents with a GPA of at least 2.5 and enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited program for the upcoming school year or term are eligible. $16,000 in scholarships were awarded in 2025-26.
Eligibility requirements are on the applications available at gtlakes.com.
New for 2026: All scholarship applications are accepted online. The deadline for the 2026-27 school year is March 31.

Ticket sales for the 2026 Warblers on the Water events, May 22-25, will begin this week in March. The festival will feature new field trips to celebrate Great Lakes Islands biodiversity.
America 250 Writing Challenge seeks submissions on America 250, with selected works compiled into a book. Visit the library for more details.
Ben Traverse and Nick Veine will perform at the BIC Center on March 12th at 6:30 p.m. to kick off Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations. Tickets are $20, with free admission for kids 17 and under. Tickets.biccenter.org
