Past guest artists include Garrick Ohlsson, The Lincoln Trio, Martha Guth, and Kevin Cole. Recent commissions include works by Clarice Assad, Tony Manfredonia, and Mara Gibson. NAME OF DAY: Today’s BIC Center Name of the Day is Maxwell.  If that’s your name come on into the BIC Center today to claim a free drink of your choice courtesy of your friends at the Beaver Island Community Center and W-V-B-I.

BIRTHDAYS: Joanie Adams, Ann Miller, and Rose Hockey are celebrating today. Happy Birthday to Joanie, Ann and Rose and, if we missed you on our list, Happy Birthday to you too from all of us at W-V-B-I and your Beaver Island Community Center.

TRAFFIC: It’s busy in town, especially when the ferry comes in and busy by the public beach. No delays inbound or outbound to the airports.  Island beltway running smoothly.  No bridge delays. Lots of bikers and hikers, though, so let’s be careful out there.

On This Day On the morning of July 31, 1975, James Riddle Hoffa, one of the most influential American labor leaders of the 20th century, is officially reported missing after he failed to return home the previous night. Though he is popularly believed to have been the victim of a Mafia hit, conclusive evidence was never found and Hoffa’s fate remains a mystery.

Word of the Day – Purport

To purport is to claim to be or do a particular thing when this claim may not be true.

// The report purports to be objective, but its bias is clear.

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Wednesday

Here’s a thought for the day “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

On a lighter note I always thought orthopedic shoes were overrated… but I stand corrected

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Wednesday, July 31st, 2024. I’m Greg Doig reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
