Concession stand will be open for snacks, a meal or both—for both shows. Trailers for the movies are on the BIC Center website at BIC Center dot org.

TRAFFIC: None. Critter count was zero this morning, but with the big thaw over the weekend and the freeze last night, the unpaved roads are a crunchy, icy mess, so, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.
BIRTHDAYS: Today, Brennan Wearn, John Fiegan and Owen McDonough are celebrating. Happy Birthday to each of them and, if we missed you on the list today, Happy Birthday to you, too, from all of us at WVBI and your Beaver Island Community Center.
ON THIS DAY in 1964, Italy requests help to keep Pisa’s tower from toppling. A cathedral’s 791-year-old bell tower in the Italian city of Pisa, always a little askew, is now in real danger of collapsing completely. Italy puts out a call for a straight solution.
WORD OF THE DAY: trenchant {adjective} [TREN-chunt] which means: keen, sharp: vigorously effective and articulate; also : caustic; a : sharply perceptive : penetrating; clear-cut, distinct. The word trenchant comes from the Anglo-French verb trencher, meaning “to cut,” and may ultimately derive from the Vulgar Latin trinicare, meaning “to cut in three.” Hence, a trenchant sword is one with a keen edge; a trenchant remark is one that cuts deep; and a trenchant observation is one that cuts to the heart of the matter. Relatives of trenchant in English include the noun trench (“a long ditch cut into the ground”) and the verb retrench (“to cut down or pare away” or “to cut down expenses”). (merriam-webster.com)
Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Thursday…
Here’s a thought for the day “We plan big things for tomorrow in spite of zero knowledge of the future. That is confidence.”
And, on a lighter note: What’s the Maple tree’s favorite song? Don’t stop be-leafin’.
