Community Calendar for Friday July 12th, 2019

From studios in the BIC Center on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the WVBI Community Calendar for Friday, July 12th, 2019.
Friday, Yoga at 9:30. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program at 10:30.
Once again, lots on tap for the weekend. The library has a rocket building going on all day as part of their rocket into space summer reading program. That’s right. Don’t just read about rockets. Get busy building one with a planned launch date in august. Where will your rocket go? Whiskey Point Light House is open from 11 to 1. Protar’s Home open 1 to 3. Movies here at the BIC Center. New, live action version of Disney’s Dumbo at 4. The Documentary Kangaroo at 7. Trailers on the BIC Center website at bic center dot org. Or see them on the digital signage at McDonough’s and elsewhere around town. Contra Dance also at 7 Saturday evening. That’s at the Episcopal Mission.
Sunday, worship services at all four island churches. Details on the calendar. Also, Sunday afternoon, Museum week kicks off with a special This Place Matters Picnic event at the Beaver Head Lighthouse on the south end. It’ll be open for tours, plus food, music and some presentations. That’s 12 to 3.
Museum week begins Sunday and runs until Saturday – Discover Beaver Island history with the annual Museum Week full of informative and entertaining events including: music; presentations on nature, history, and Native American culture; nature walks and cruises, and an art show. Museum Week 2018 was the most amazing and well attended ever, so you don’t want to miss Museum Week 2019.
CMU Open House
Here’s a reminder about bIrobot’s summer robotics camp. bIrobot is the B-I-C-S FIRST robotics team. Their summer camp is a mini version of a FIRST F-R-C robotics competition season. Campers build robots to meet a challenge announced at the start of camp and then compete on the final day.

Marine Report Today: Southwest winds 5 to 10 kt increasing to 10 to 20 kt late in the morning, then becoming southwest 10 to 20 kt early in the afternoon increasing to 15 to 25 kt late. Waves 1 to 2 ft building to 3 to 5 ft.
Tonight: Southwest winds 15 to 25 kt diminishing to 10 to 20 kt late in the evening, then becoming west after midnight becoming northwest 10 to 15 kt late. Chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Waves 3 to 5 ft subsiding to 2 to 4 ft.
TRAFFIC: No delays inbound or outbound to the airports. Island beltway running smoothly. Bridges clear. But, let’s be careful out there. Especially at the turtle crossings..
