The BIROBOT team is back and their season is over. The team performed well at their second district event in Marysville. After two events, the team fell short of the required points needed to be invited back to the State Championship Event.

The team did earn another award for their robot. This time the judges awarded them the Quality Award sponsored by Motorola Solutions Foundation. The award celebrates machine robustness in concept and fabrication. The award also recognizes the team for their planning and execution throughout the build season and at the event. Both the intake system and climbing arm, aka battle axe, were noted for their uniqueness and performance. Loads of judges, teams and spectators were commenting on how well thought out the components were and awed by the performance.
The judges also noted the unique pit area and special thanks to John Robert, and all his excellent helpers, in building a one of a kind pit display. Adam Anderson and Beaver Island Marina were once again extremely generous with his time, tools and facilities to build this award winning machine. Big thanks to Kevin Boyle and Cameron Bartlett for mentoring and teaching the team skills to use both in and out of the classroom. Congratulations to the students, mentors, parents, families, the school and all that supported this team. The financial support was tremendous and thankfully appreciated. It is indeed an investment in all our futures. Congratulations once again to all involved.
If I missed something or anyone send an email to<> and we will get it on the air. Visit the website to see the full list of team supporters. Buy some merch while you’re there at J

As frequent listeners will know, the Preservation Association of Beaver Island, which operates W-V-B-I and the Community Center has been planning to host a community forum on the consolidation question that will go before voters on May 8. The PABI board announced late Wednesday that it was cancelling the forum. According to the Board, the original plan was to broadcast the forum right here on WVBI along with some follow up interviews with key supporters on both sides. While the forum is off, the interviews will proceed. We’ll let you know as soon as we can when they will be broadcast. If you miss them on the air you’ll still be able to hear them as podcasts.
If you have questions you’d like presented to representatives from either or both sides, please send them to consolidation questions at w-v-b-I dot net. Or you can drop them in the old fashioned mail addressed to Consolidation Questions, PABI [PABBY], P-O Box 494, Beaver Island, Michigan 4-9-7-8-2. Or just drop them by the BIC Center during regular opening hours in an envelope marked Consolidation Questions.

At our website, we’ve tried to include everything, but if we’ve missed your event you can easily add it yourself by using the handy “Post Your Event” button in the upper right of the calendar or by sending an email with the details to<>. And, we can make it easy for your events to show up in a nice calendar on your website, too, so you only have to post them once. Your website can show only your events or those plus other categories from the calendar that you choose.

To help coordinate the events we’ve taken the major events for Summer 2018 and compiled them into a nifty little Celebrate Summer 2018 online calendar. Just point your browser at to get the lowdown on everything planned so far for next summer. Then check back from time to time as more events will be added as dates are firmed up.

Still no delays to report on Beaver Island.

Hey, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

To Lucas, Sophia and all our listeners, there will be disappointments in life, but hope is what pushes us forward when they do.

On a lighter note, what do you call a parrot that has flown away? Polygon!!!

That’s the WVBI Community Calendar for Monday April 9th, 2018.
