Status: She is currently being held on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled for a probable cause conference on November 10, 2026
The Department of Veterans Affairs processed a record 3.1 million claims in fiscal year 2026, driven by an 80% increase in submissions since 2022 and extensive outreach efforts.
To manage the rising volume of claims, the VA plans to hire over 2,000 additional claims processors in fiscal year 2027, expanding its current workforce of approximately 13,000.
VA Secretary Doug Collins stated that these new hires are intended to maintain improvements in the speed, accuracy, and volume of disability claims processing.

On this date in 1938, Orson Welles broadcast a radio adaptation of “The War of the Worlds” on CBS, which many listeners joined mid-program after switching from a popular NBC comedy show.
The broadcast utilized a realistic format, interspersing musical performances with increasingly urgent news bulletins that described explosions on Mars and a subsequent alien landing in Grovers Mills, New Jersey.
The play featured vivid, dramatic descriptions of the extraterrestrial creatures emerging from a metallic cylinder, contributing to the program’s intense and immersive narrative style. The Federal Communications Commission investigated the unorthodox program
but found no law was broken.

And on a lighter note, how does a witch know the best time to go trick or treating?
She checks her witch watch.
