| From our Langford Family studios on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the WVBI Community Calendar for Friday, April 1st, 2022. |
| Now, some news…
The Health Center has announced that they have second round COVID-19 Pfizer booster vaccines available—that after the CDC adopted guidelines for second rounds of COVID-19 boosters. The C-D-C says those over 50 are eligible to get one four months after they got the first booster. Also on the eligibility list are those 12 and over with certain kinds of immunocompromise. For now, only the Pfizer booster is available, but that can be used no matter what COVID-19 vaccine you’ve received previously. Additional Moderna boosters are on order for those who prefer that option. If you are interested in a booster, contact the health center to arrange a time. Because the vaccine comes in multi-dose vials that must be completely used promptly after opening, they’ll be scheduling the next round of jabs in batches.
Meantime, the Health Center has no new COVID-19 tests or cases to report. Next report on statewide numbers is due this afternoon. Next week, the state will start reporting once a week on Wednesdays instead of on Monday Wednesday and Friday.
Local officials are encouraging residents to participate in a global selfie to be taken Saturday morning using the new James Webb Space telescope. W-V-B-I’s Night Sky story-teller Mary Stewart Adams has the details. |
| 1:59 Q:…”I’m Mary Stewart Adams.” |
| Local officials are calling on island residents to gather at the car wash on the north end of the island so that the telescope will have the best shot of overcoming the tree-line. They say they’d like to make the biggest heat dot possible so that the island will be clearly visible in the first-time, April 1st photo. |

Happy Birthday to Courtney, Kira, Bridget, Heather, Josh, Bryan, Ryan, Jared and Paul, and, if we missed you on the list, Happy Birthday to you from all of us at W-V-B-I and your Beaver Island Community Center. |
| TRAFFIC: None, nada, zip. But let’s be careful out there. |
| ON THIS DAY in 1698 several gullible people are sent to the Tower of London to see the “washing of the lions” (a nonexistent practice), as will be reported April 2 by a London newspaper. The prank will endure for centuries, making clear that the tradition of tricking dupes on April 1 is becoming increasingly popular. On the island, traditions include three-toed sloth sightings on the south end, joint township hall proposals—and now James Webb Space telescope selfies. |
| WORD OF THE DAY: predilection (noun) [pred-uh-LEK-shun] which is “a natural liking for something” or “a tendency to do or to be attracted to something.” Predilection comes from French prediléction and Latin praediligere, meaning “to love more” or “to prefer.” In Latin, diligere means “to love.” |
| Now, to wrap up for this for Beaver Island Friday… |
| Here’s a thought for the day from Winston Churchill: “Everyone has his day, and some days last longer than others.”
On a lighter note: What did the tortilla chip say to the cheese? It’s nach-yo business? |
| That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Friday, April 1st, 2022. I’m Kevin Boyle reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day—and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And, thanks for listening. |
