WVBI Weekend Community Calendar for Friday, June 7th, 2019

From studios in the BIC Center on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the WVBI Community Calendar for Friday, June 7th, 2019.
Here’s what’s happening on your island this weekend…

The main event this weekend is graduation for B-I-C-S seniors.  Ceremonies here at the BIC Center at 1 on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to attend, but the auditorium fills up so be sure to get here ahead of time to get a seat.  Graduation parties will follow on Saturday and Sunday.  Lots of celebrating to be done. Lego club is going on Saturday, too. That’s at 1 at the library.  And we have movies here at the BIC Center on Saturday.  At 4 it’s a romantic comedy that makes fun of romantic comedies.  Isn’t that Romantic is the title of the film. It’s rated PG-13, so fun for the whole family except the really young ones. At 7, Julianne Moore stars in Gloria Bell—which is a romantic comedy and drama.  It’s rated R.  Concession stand will be open with Nathan’s hot dogs, popcorn, pretzels, sweets, soda and other drinks.

Sunday, worship services at Holy Cross, the Christian Church and the Lighthouse Fellowship.  Check the calendar for details.

Meeting planner for next week:  School board has their regular monthly meeting on Monday at 7 at school.  Next Tuesday, Transportation Authority meets at noon in their building across from the ferry dock and the Peaine Township Planning Commission meets at 7 at the Township Hall. And the Health Center Board has a meeting set for next Saturday at the Heath Center.  That’s in the Community Room at 10.  On the fun front next week: Pickleball on the outside courts on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 to noon.  Arthritus Foundation Exercise Program on Tuesday and Friday from 10 to 11 here at the BIC Center.  Bingo on Wednesday at Greg Fellowship Center. Doors open at 6:15 for fellowship, Games at 7.  And Lego club on Saturday at 1.

Here’s something to get on your calendar.  All sorts of fun exercise opportunities coming up here at the BIC Center.  There’ll be something every day.  Yoga on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Tuesdays, Tai Chi and Thursdays—get this—kick boxing.  That’s right kick boxing moves for exercise right here at the BIC Center.  And, Saturdays, Self Defense exercise classes.  Sunday, we rest.

Looking good out on the water through the weekend.

SE wind 5 to 10 kt becoming NE in the afternoon. Sunny. Waves 1 ft or less.

ESE wind 5 to 10 kt. Partly sunny. Waves 1 ft or less.

But, don’t forget.  The water is still dangerously cold. 44 in Little Traverse Bay and 38 out in the deep water at the buoy southwest of Gull Island.  So, if you are headed out on the lake in small craft—dress for the water, not the weather.

Fire Danger Level: High.

TRAFFIC: No delays inbound or outbound to the airports.  That could be because the road crews have been busy grading and making everything smooth.  Sloptown Road was freshly graded this morning. WVBI Beavers report the bridges are clear. But, let’s be careful out there, especially in the school zone.
Birthdays:  Fire Captain and golf course operator extraordinaire John Works, Captain Ken Scoggins and Dennis Monachino are all celebrating today.  Happy birthday to each of them.  And, to you to if we missed you on our list—Happy Birthday from all of us at W-V-B-I and Beaver Island Community Center.
Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Friday…

Here’s a thought for the day for our graduating seniors at B-I-C-S: “Go into the world and do well. But more importantly, go into the world and do good.”

On a the lighter note …

Did you hear about the new great new anti-gravity book?  Yep. It’s so good you can’t put it down.

SFX: Clock Chime….
That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for Friday, June 7th, 2019.  That Thing with Rich Appel is up next followed by Titus Jennings with the Titus Jennings Experieince at 9 and Rich Warren with the Midnight Special at 11.  And tomorrow, tune in at 10 for the Top Ten plus Five with Cynthia Jaye.  I’m Kevin Boyle at the pest free Hogarth Pest Control Studios of the Voice of Beaver Island wishing you a great weekend and asking you: why not make it the best weekend ever?  And, thanks for listening.
