First, some news…
There’s a COVID-19 vaccination clinic planned for today at school, but the fog has the vaccination team trapped on the other side. And, it doesn’t look like it will lift in time for them—so today’s event has been cancelled. They are looking at times next week. We’ll keep you up to date here on that and you can check the school website for updates, too.
Yesterday’s state COVID-19 report again shows a downward trend in new cases over the two-day period it covers with just 2,518 new cases a day. There were 29 deaths for the entire period or 15 a day. That brings the seven-day running average for new cases down to 3,368. For deaths, the average is up two to 64 including reclassifications. In our region, there were 37 new cases a day and one death overall. Charlevoix had a tota of three new cases—the death was in Benzie.

Hospital utilization data continues to run high, but it is down a bit, perhaps from the weekend, and the COVID-19 share of it has dropped even with that. Overall occupancy for regular beds statewide is 78.5% and 81.9% for I-C-U beds. In our zone, those numbers are higher at 77.7% for regular beds and 85.9% for the I-C-U. Normal is in the mid 70s. Statewide, 13.1% of regular beds have COVID-19 patients in them. For I-C-U beds, the rate is 23.9%. Locally, Munson in Charlevoix is down a patient to none while McLaren in Petoskey is up one to 12.
At the health Center, no new tests. No tests pending. Last positive tests were on the 7th. There have been three positive tests since the current island cases began. Positive rate is 9.1%.
