WVBi COVID-19 Update for July 14, 2020

The governor’s mask order has caused confusion about who is to enforce it. A number of law enforcement agencies around the states say they don’t have the resources to deal with it and are directing complaints to the attorney general’s office. Businesses are left in a quandary, and for some the issue has become a political statement. On the island, it appears that most folks have just decided to mask up when coming into a public space.
State-wide numbers showed another dip yesterday with 384 new cases reported. & new deaths. Average new case rate bumped up again to 507. And the average daily death toll is up to 14, but that is primarily a function of the reclassification of some deaths over the past several days. Total cases in Michigan are 69,772 with 6,075 deaths.
On the island, total tests run is 118. 109 of those are back as negative. Eight tests are pending. Still only one back as positive.
In our region, the confirmed case count is up 3 cases to 365. Antrim up 1 to 25. Benzie up 1 to 13. Emmet up 1 to 35. No other changes. Death toll is at 21, no change there. Full county by county data are in today’s script. [Antrim 24 cases, still no deaths. Benzie is at 12 cases and no deaths. Charlevoix has 27 cases including one from the island, and two deaths. Emmet is at 34 with two deaths. Grand Traverse is at 88 cases with six deaths. Kalkaska has 20 confirmed cases two deaths. Leelanau at 40, no deaths. Otsego confirmed case count is at 107 with 10 deaths.] U-P is up six cases to 265. Death toll is up two to 20 with deaths in School craft and Delta counties.
