WVBI COVID-19 Update for January 31, 2021

Health Center reports two new tests since Friday morning’s report with both back negative. No new positives. No tests pending. Current case count for the island is 30. That’s cases 30 days old or less. If you look at cases 14 days old or less, the current count is 14.

State data from Friday showed another slight downtick in new cases and deaths. There were an average of 13,155 new cases a day and 26 new deaths a day reported during the two day reporting period. There were also a total of 121 reclassified deaths. That pushed the seven-day running averages to 13,301 for new cases and 84 for deaths including reclassifications. In our region there were 190 new cases a day and 1 death overall. 29 of the new cases and the single death were in Charlevoix. Hospital utilization continues to run high overall statewide and extremely high for COVID-19. No change in our local stats.

Ten million K-N ninety-five masks being distributed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are on the way to Michiganders. Our local health department and the C-O-A are supposed to be distribution points. C-O-A’s Lonnie Allen says they received 40 five-packs of masks and are distributing them to C-O-A clients this week. What’s left will be available to the general public after that. The Health Department has not responded to our inquiries about their plans.
