WVBI COVID-19 Update for January 25, 2022

Another day of no news is good news on the Health Center front. No new tests. No new positives. No tests reported pending. Their active case count holds steady at 28.

Monday’s state report showed another downtick in new cases statewide with 13,124. That’s down more than 3,000. And, a big drop in new deaths with a total of 36 reported for both days—or 18 a day. That’s down from 65 a day. Seven-day averages are at 15,332 new cases and 64 deaths. In our region, the new case count was down as well to 230 a day—that’s down by 76. And, there were no deaths reported in our region. 56 of the new cases were in Charlevoix—27 a day. Hospital occupancy continues to run high overall and extremely high for COVID-19. At our local hospitals, McLaren in Petoskey has added six new patients bringing them to 25 patients overall, but Charlevoix is down one and now has one patient. In considering the hospital numbers, it’s important to remember that the COVID-19 count includes all hospitalized patients with COVID-19, which may not be the reason they are in the hospital.
