B-I-C-S students are studying from home today so the school can be available for another vaccination clinic. This is a second round of vaccines. If you got your first shot back on January 19th, don’t forget the second round today.
Yesterday’s COVID-19 report from the state had more good news in terms of trends. There were 775 new cases and 19 deaths—those are statewide numbers. Seven-day running average for new cases is 898. For deaths, the average is 30 a day with reclassifications included. In the eight-county region we’ve followed from the start, there were 12 new cases and no deaths. Charlevoix had two new cases. Seven day running averages for our region are 16 new cases a day and no deaths.
Statewide there are now 40,730 active cases—down by about 1,100 over the two-day period. Our region has 882—down by 38.
Positivity rates shown on the state’s Safe Start dashboard continue to move in the right direction. Statewide rate is at 3.7%, down two tenths. It’s 3.5% in our safe start zone. That’s down six tenths. And the rate in Charlevoix county is down six tenths, too, to 1.3%. The C-D-C target is 3% or less. New case per million rates are on a steady slope down.
Overall hospital occupancy rates continue to look good both statewide and in our safe start zone—essentially normal. Statewide, 4.5% of available beds are occupied with COVID-19 patients. For I-C-U beds, COVID occupancy is 8%. There are no COVID-19 patients at Munson in Charlevoix and eight at McLaren in Petoskey—all in their I-C-U.
On the island, no new tests. No tests pending. No new positives since December 7th.
