WVBI COVID-19 Update for February 12, 2021

COVID-19 data from the state yesterday shows a bump up in new cases, but within variations we’ve come to expect day to day. There were 1,284 new cases and 20 new deaths in yesterday’s report along with 55 reclassified deaths. Seven-day running average for new cases is down to 990. For deaths, the average is 15 a day—with reclassifications backed out. In the eight-county region we’ve followed from the start, there were 19 new cases and one death. Charlevoix had a case removed. The single death was in Grand Traverse.  Seven day running averages for our region are 22 new cases a day and one death. 

 

Statewide there are now 46,567 active cases—down by about 700. Our region has 1,105—down by 11. 

 

Positivity rates shown on the state’s Safe Start dashboard continue to look good. Statewide rate is down a tenth at 4.1%.  It’s steady at 4.3% in our safe start zone. The rate in Charlevoix county is down three tenths to 1.5%. The C-D-C target is 3% or less.  New case per million rates are on a steady slope down. Overall hospital occupancy rates continue to look good both statewide and in our safe start zone—essentially normal.  Statewide, 4.3% of available beds are occupied with COVID-19 patients. For I-C-U beds, COVID occupancy is 8.1%.  There are no COVID-19 patients at Munson in Charlevoix, but three more at McLaren in Petoskey bringing them to eight COVID patients—all in their I-C-U.

 

On the island, no new tests.  No tests pending. No new positives since December 7^th.
