COVID-19

WVBI COVID-19 Update for April 14, 2022

The state has released its first update to COVID-19 data in a week. It is showing a bit of an uptick in new cases, but the numbers are still low. The seven-day running average has jumped from 626 new cases a day a week ago to 950 based on the latest report.  But, deaths remain low as does hospital utilization. Experts say the increase is likely the result of the spread into southern Michigan of the latest omicron subvariant called B-A two. While it is more transmissible than the original omicron variant, it is also less likely to result in severe illness. Still, experts say that if you are not vaccinated, are elderly, or have an underlying health condition, it presents a serious risk. The report showed five new cases in Charlevoix over the week it covers and no deaths. Meanwhile, Charlevoix’s Munson hospital admitted a COVID-19 patient—their only one at the moment—while McLaren in Petoskey saw their COVID-19 patient count drop from two to one. Nothing new on the island. No new tests or cases. No known active cases on the island.
