Current Events Update for Friday, January 22, 2016

Today is Friday, January 22nd, 2016. I’m Greg Doig with today’s WVBI Community Calendar.

NEWS

We’re pleased to let you know we have a spiffy new website for WVBI.

  • You can use it to listen online with a built-in station player that can provide you all sorts of information about the music we play. You’ll find song lyrics, album and artist information and more. To listen, just press the play button in the station player bar at the bottom of the page.

  • There’s also a Community Calendar with information about events all over Beaver Island. We’re trying to make it complete with entries for BICC sponsored events as well as other events sponsored by other island organizations — including BICS, BIHS, the Chamber and the BI Cultural Arts Society, among others. We’ll also have entries for island board meetings that are open to the public. Want to see your event on the calendar? Just send us an email at calendar@wvbi.net.

  • Keep up on what’s happening at WVBI with our news posts. You’ll find news about events on the station and at the BICC plus the text of our daily current events updates.

  • Want to know what’s on when at the station? There’s complete program schedule with detailed information about all of our programming.

  • Have an idea for a show or want to make a suggestion? Use the handy contact form.

But, enough reading about it. Dial it up and have a look at www.wvbi.net.

Mark your calendar! Join us February 26th for the 2nd Annual Alumni Basketball Tournament and Chili/Soup Cook Off

If you would like to join a team or sign up to enter your most awesome Chili or Soup call Carol @ 231-838-2883

This event is sponsored by the Beaver Island Sports Boosters. Our goal is to purchase BICS athletes new Soccer uniforms, an outdoor timer for the Soccer games, Platform for our Volleyball Refs, and new mats for the gym. All donations will go directly to these items for our Beaver Island Community School Sports Program.

At the Community Center…

Games Galore will now be held on Thursday’s at 1pm to 4pm

The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program will now be available on FRIDAYS ONLY, 11am-12pm @ BI Comm Center effective the week of January 25;

FIRST NEW CLASS Friday, January 29!

NOTE: There will be NO CLASS on Friday, January 22!

This certified program emphasizes balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion and brain power, too! Try it…it’s free and it really works!

The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is what is referred to as “evidence-based”, meaning it has been developed, documented, studied and adapted over two decades in conjunction with the National Arthritis Organization and Stanford University. The program’s demonstrated benefits include improved functional ability, decreased depression, and increased confidence in one’s ability to exercise. The data has proven the effectiveness of AFEP for improving mobility and independence, for decreasing pain, and for reducing pain related visits to the doctor.

Instructors are required to be certified, ensuring the safety of participants. They are also educated as to the precautions necessary for certain conditions, such as surgeries, injuries and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program is the longest-running Health and Wellness Program supported by the COA on Beaver Island, celebrating almost seven years of year-round sessions! If you need some physical activity to keep your joints moving and flexible, please give this a try and help us maintain the availability of this valuable program.

If you are interested in attending but would like–or need–to use the Charlevoix County Transit bus in order to do so, please contact Ann at 448-2022. We would consider changing the time of the class to coincide with the Transit schedule in order to keep this valuable program active on Beaver Island.
