News Update

[COVID-19}WVBI COVID-19 Update for July 24, 2020

Yesterday saw another big batch of new COVID-19 cases reported by state health officials. There were 699 confirmed in their report along with 7 new deaths. That continues the trend of a large absolute number of cases and few deaths. However, its important to note the increase in the number of cases is at least in part a function of increased testing. The daily testing rate has more than doubled in the past month while the positive result rate has moved from an average of around 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent. Meantime, the absolute number of deaths has continued a steady decline. The average there now stands at 5.5. The average daily new case count is at 586.
Numbers in our region show another 11 new cases. But, no new deaths. New cases are in Benzie with three, Emmet with one, and Grand Traverse with eight. Charlevoix is down one. That brings total cases in the region since the start of the crisis to 467. Death toll remains at 24. Full details for our area are in today’s script online.
