Interlochen Public Radio is reporting today that Antrim County Clerk Victoria Bishop made 128 unauthorized changes to Michigan’s voter file, including canceling 58 registrations in violation of state law. The Bureau of Elections revoked her access in June and says she has not completed required training or provided requested information about 1,800 voter confirmation cards.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris campaigned in Detroit Tuesday with Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, calling the midterms a potential check on President Donald Trump. The two appeared at a Black maternal health roundtable as El-Sayed works to unite Democrats following a divisive primary. He faces Republican Mike Rogers for the seat being vacated by Gary Peters—a race expected to play a major role in determining control of the Senate. There’s a detailed look at Rogers’ work in the U-S Congress out today on Bridge Michigan. It takes a look at his focus on national intelligence and positions on a broad range of issues. Michigan’s rural townships are facing rising costs and growing difficulty filling required offices. That’s according to a University of Michigan survey that finds more than 75 percent of townships and villages report worsening recruitment problems. So, what would the leading candidates for governor do about that? Bridge Michigan reports that Republican gubernatorial candidate John James would make voluntary consolidation easier and consider shifting some duties to counties. Democrat Jocelyn Benson opposes forced mergers, saying the state should provide resources while leaving decisions with local communities.

Down in T-C, the Traverse City State Park will reopen early for fall camping as an eight-and-a-half-million-dollar improvement project nears completion. Reservations open at eight Thursday morning for 151 campsites available October 8th through November 8th. The park had been expected to remain closed until next spring.

Over on Arranmore, it is Love Arranmore Day. And it will kick off with a visit from Irish President Catherine Connolly. It’s her second trip to the Island since taking office. She’ll meet with local officials and visit the Island school. Meanwhile, Beaver Island awaits its first visit from a sitting president of the U-S.

A-A meets Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:00. JTAC has a special meeting Thursday at 4:30. It’s their regular meeting, but rescheduled to a later date. Wildlife Club meets Thursday as well at 7:00.

On the fun front today…
Wednesday, there’s 10:30 there’s Chair Strength training at the BIC Center up in the Hangout. Over at the Little Sand Bay Nature preserve, there’s the second day or a work bee to repair portions of the boardwalk. They start work at 10:00 and plan to be done at 4:00. At 3:30, the Lego Club is on at the library. At 4:00 the Amik Cultural Preservation Center will be open. And evening Pickleball remains on the calendar. That starts at 7:00 on the outdoor courts at Peaine Township Park.
Thursday, there’s Pickleball at Peaine Township Park at 9:00. There’s COA Cardio Drumming at 10:00 and Art Therapy at 11:00, both at Peaine Township Hall. There’s Women’s Bible Study at 10:00 a.m. at the BI Christian Church and at 10:30, there’s Senior Tai Chi at the BIC Center. The Weekly Bocce Ball roll is on at 4:00 on the courts at the Peaine Township Park.

Friday, there’s Senior and Vets Coffee and Donuts from 8:30 to 10:30 in the Welcome Center at the BIC Center. At 9:00 A-M Pickleball Outdoors on the Peaine Township courts. Back at the BIC Center at 9:30, there’s Chair Strength Training up in the Hangout. Also, Friday evening at B-I-C-S, the Islander volleyball and soccer squads take on Mackinac Island in games starting at 5:00. And, at the Wild Strawberry, there’s and End of Summer Pizza Party. Their famous pizza back for one night only 4:00 to 7:00.

Saturday, the Islanders take on the Lakers again in volleyball and soccer matches at school. The Artisan’s Market is on at the Point starting at 10:00. Saturday movies are back at the BIC Center. The 3:00 show is Toy Story 5. Woody, Buzz and the gang take on a electronic tablet in the latest from Pixar. It’s rated PG. Then at 6:00, It’s Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. Avatar Aang learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands. It’s rated PG-13. Saturday nights are Prime Rib Night at the Shamrock. And there’s Pickleball outside starting at 7:00 on the township courts.
[On the radio, tune in for Country Classics at 5:00 Saturday evening with host Sheri Timsak. At 7:00, take a trip back to the best of the 80s and 90s with the Mix Tape show (that’s a 120-minute TDK cassette tape for those in the know) hosted by WVBI’s Adam Pettigrew. Mark Beltaire takes over at 9:00 with Rockin’ the Boat and continues at 10:00 with the Blues Cruise. Cousin Dan wraps up the evening with the Too Good Radio Show starting at 11:00.]
Sunday, there are services at the Episcopal Mission at 9:00 and at the Christian Church at 10:00. Mass is at Holy Cross at 12:15. And the Amik Cultural Center is open 1 to 3 PM.

Our Merriam Webster word of the day is compendious (kum-PEN-dee-us), an adjective describing something that contains a large amount of information or provides a comprehensive treatment of a subject. It can also mean both complete and concise, as in “a compendious summary.” The word comes from the Latin compendiosus, meaning comprehensive and succinct, although today compendious usually emphasizes completeness more than brevity.
