First some news…
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer convened a roundtable with lawmakers and stakeholders to address the state’s housing crisis. The main focus was on increasing housing supply by streamlining regulations and addressing affordability issues, as housing costs have outpaced income growth. Bipartisan bills are being considered at both the state and federal levels to alleviate these challenges.
Michigan for Responsible Data Centers, a coalition of statewide organizations, aims to educate communities about the impacts of data centers. The coalition will provide research and information on energy, water, and economic impacts to help communities make informed decisions about future projects.
Team 6098 BIROBOT heads to Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste Marie this week for their first competition event of 2026. The team travels Thursday, competes Friday and Saturday, and returns Sunday. On this date in 1989 The Exxon Valdez oil spill, one of the worst in U.S. history, began when the supertanker, owned and operated by the Exxon Corporation, ran aground on a reef in Prince William Sound, southern Alaska. The spill released an estimated 11 million gallons of oil into the water. Despite attempts to contain the massive spill, wind and currents spread the oil over 100 miles from its source, eventually contaminating more than 700 miles of coastline. The environmental disaster severely impacted hundreds of thousands of birds and animals.
