First some news…
Northern Michigan—including Charlevoix County—is experiencing elevated ozone forecasts and hot, humid summer conditions

McLaren Northern Michigan broke ground on a $17 million renovation and expansion of its Cheboygan Campus emergency department. The project, supported by $13 million in state appropriations and the McDonald Family, will nearly double the clinical care space and include 14 private treatment rooms.

Summer Yoga is back at the BIC Center. Basic Flow sessions will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:30.  And, there’ll be Chair Yoga classes Mondays at 11:00. Chair Yoga is designed for anyone who wants the support of a chair, whether for balance, flexibility, arthritis, joint replacement recovery, chronic pain, or simply gentler movement. It will be led by a Duke University trained certified instructor. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early for both sessions to get set up. Mats and all other equipment will be provided. A $10 donation supports the BIC Center and helps keep programs like this available to the community.

Finally, a reminder that this Independence Day celebrations this year will extend to the 5th with a fireworks display that evening, the team originally scheduled to run the display had to back out. Because the 4th is on a Saturday this year and many communities schedule their fireworks for the Saturday nearest the fourth ever year, that combined with America 250 put qualified display teams in very short supply. Islanders who’ve been here a bit will recall that something similar happened four or five years ago. So again, the rockets multi-colored glare will rise over Paradise Bay just after dusk settles in on July 5th.

TRAFFIC: No delays inbound or outbound to the airports. The Island Beltway is running smoothly save for occasional paving delays on East Side Drive and hauling delays by the municipal airport. There are no bridge delays. But, the Island is busier than ever with all the construction traffic, bikers and hikers, fawns and turtles and traffic when the ferry arrives, so let’s be careful out there.
In our countdown to 250, on this date in 1776, the Second Continental Congress laid the groundwork for the Declaration of Independence, while a massive British invasion fleet arrived at Sandy Hook, New Jersey, preparing to attack New York.
Our Merriam Webster Word of the Day is bereft – To be bereft is to be deprived or robbed of something, or to lack something that you need, want, or expect. Bereft is also used as a synonym of bereaved.
// They appear to be completely bereft of new ideas.
Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Tuesday…
Here’s a thought for the day from George Washington who wrote,
“I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is the best policy.”
On a lighter note… “I don’t play soccer because I enjoy the sport. I’m just doing it for kicks!”
That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar Report for this Beaver Island Tuesday, June 30th, 2026. I’m Greg Doig reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day and asking: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
