Big news from the BIROBOT team at BICS. They gathered some awards in the Marysville event. They were awarded the Rookie Inspiration award by National Instruments and were awarded the highest seeded rookie team award of the event. The team finished in third overall, in the qualification rounds. Their record was 10-1-1. They also were part of an alliance that had the highest point total of the event. The team also led in some other points categories.

Find out more at and look at the Twitter feed for links. We will update the Facebook page for those that choose that platform over twitter. Don’t forget to visit the BIROBOT shop at their website. Buy a BIROBOT t-shirt for spring and summer. Join the cool kids and adults that will be wearing them. If you want to be a sponsor, click the link to join the team as a sponsor.

There is a post on the forum that states the first boat will run early. The tentative date and time is April 6th at 8:20a.m.

Take advantage of great spring birding opportunities throughout Michigan, with the snow melting and days getting longer, Michigan‚ Spring birding season is almost here, and now is the time to start making plans.

Among the great birding opportunities is the 2016 Warblers on the Water event, celebrating Beaver Island’s unique location and its spectacular birding over the Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29. Guided field trips, demonstrations and presentations will be scheduled on the island, showcasing the Beaver Island Birding Trail. Visit the Beaver Island Birding Trail website to register.

Dr Jeff Powers – Next Friday we will be holding a Lyme and Heart worm testing and vaccination clinic.

Black Legged Deer Ticks are already very prevalent this year and it is imperative that your dogs receive testing, vaccination and prevention. Last year close to 30 dogs tested positive for Lyme Disease on Beaver Island with several becoming very ill.

We will have discounts on all vaccinations, testing and anti-parasitic medication. Please contact the hardware store 2314482572 or 2318814408 to set up an appointment.

We hope to have additional clinics in the spring but the presence of large numbers of ticks present on the island at this time warrants addressing this issue now.

If you are looking for information on all island events, find it on the new WVBI Community Calendar. Just head on over to the WVBI website and click on Calendar on the top menu.

We’ve tried to include everything, but if we’ve missed your event you can easily add it yourself by using the handy “Post Your Event” button in the upper right of the calendar or by sending an email with the details to¬† And, we can make it easy for your events to show up in a nice calendar on your website, too, so you only have to post them once. Your website can show only your events or those plus other categories from the calendar that you choose. What a deal! Email us or call for details.

Word of the day: valetudinarian (val-i-tood-n-AIR-ee-uh n) which means a person who is excessively concerned about his or her poor health or ailments. Valetudinarian stems from the Latin word for “state of health,” valētūdō, which in turn derives from the verb valēre, “to be well.” It entered English in the late 1600s.

Hey, Let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

To Lucas and all our listeners, the late writer Charles Caleb Colton wrote, “The firmest friendships have been formed in mutual adversity; as iron is most strongly united by the fiercest flame.”
