NEWS
On this date in 1944 over160,000 Allied-troops landed along a 50 mile stretch of French coast line that was heavily fortified and defended by German troops. General Dwight D Eisenhower called the operation, a crusade in which we will except nothing less than full victory. The cost in lives was tremendous. Let’s remember them on this day.
There will be a two-day Invasive Species workshop on Beaver Island. The workshop is being held by the CAKE CISMA in partnership with The Nature Conservancy. It will be June 28th and June 29th. The intent of the workshop is to increase the capacity of Beaver Island residents to carry out invasive species ID and management along with educating other stake holders in preventing the spread of invasives to the archipelago. We will have presenters from MNFI, DNR, MDARD, CAKE, TNC, Little Traverse Conservancy and others.

Did you know that a cat uses its whiskers to determine if a space is too small to squeeze through?
Word of the day: gegenschein (GEY-guh n-shahyn) which means a faint, elliptical patch of light in the night sky that appears opposite the sun, being a reflection of sunlight by meteoric material in space. Gegenschein is a loanword from German, where it translates more literally as “counterglow.” It entered English in the late 1800s.

To Lucas and all our listeners, to paraphrase Mark Twain somewhat, I am open to criticism, as long as I can agree with it.
