Joe is in for Phyllis today for our look at history, little known facts and a word of the day…
ON THIS DATE in 1986, John Hughes’ comedy about a high school student’s elaborate plan to skip school hits theaters. ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ will become a box office success and produce quotes and catch phrases that will permeate pop culture for years to come. It’s over. Go home. Go.
DID YOU KNOW: if you add up all the numbers from 1 to 100 consecutively (1 + 2 + 3…) it totals 5050
WORD OF THE DAY: nebulated (NEB-yuh-ley-tid) which means having dim or indistinct markings. The adjective nebulated comes from Late Latin nebulātus, past participle of nebulāre “to cloud, obscure,” a derivative of the noun nebula “mist, cloud.” Nebulated entered English in the late 15th century.
Birthdays: Nothing nebulated about our birthday list this morning. Keith Albin and Forest Avery are celebrating today. Happy birthday to Keith & Forest. And, to you to if we missed you on our list—Happy Birthday from all of us at W-V-B-I and Beaver Island Community Center.
A program note for you… We’ve added a new show here at WVBI. It’s the Beaver Island Birding Report with hosts Pam Grassmick and Donna Hardenburg. Hard to find better experts than these two ladies on the birds of Beaver Island. If you missed their first show on Friday, you can hear it as podcast. Just go to W-V-B-I dot net and click on the podcasts menu at the top. And listen again this Friday after for this week’s show at 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30. They’ll be passing along bird watching tips as well as information on the many birds that visit our island archipelago or make it their home.
Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Tuesday… Here’s a thought for the day, from Ferris Bueller:
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Audio: Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
On a the lighter note … A steak pun is a rare medium well done.
SFX: Clock Chime….
