NAME OF DAY: Today’s BIC Center Name of the Day is Royce.  If that’s your name come on into the BIC Center today to claim a free drink of your choice courtesy of your friends at the Beaver Island Community Center and W-V-B-I.

BIRTHDAYS: Lindsay Gorlewski, Levi Connor, and Aria Halpin are celebrating today. Happy Birthday to Lindsay, Levi and Aria and, if we missed you on our list, Happy Birthday to you too from all of us at W-V-B-I and your Beaver Island Community Center.

TRAFFIC: It’s busy in town, especially when the ferry comes in and busy by the public beach. No delays inbound or outbound to the airports.  Island beltway running smoothly.  No bridge delays. Lots of bikers and hikers, though, so let’s be careful out there.

On this day in July 1885, just after completing his memoirs, Civil War hero and former president Ulysses S. Grant dies of throat cancer.

Grant spent the last few years of his life bankrupt due to poor investments but began writing a detailed account of the Civil War and, after he died, his wife Julia lived on the royalties earned from his memoirs.

Word of the Day – Extenuate is a formal word that is most often used to mean “to lessen the strength or effect of something, such as a risk.” In legal use, to extenuate a crime, offense, etc., is to lessen or to try to lessen its seriousness or extent by making partial excuses.

// Developers are trying to extenuate the various risks associated with the product.

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Tuesday

Here’s a thought for the day “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.” D Confucius

On a lighter note, Time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024. I’m Greg Doig reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
