Community Calendar for Thursday, May 16th, 2019

From studios in the BIC Center on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the WVBI Community Calendar for Thursday, May 16th, 2019.
Here’s what’s happening on your island …
Today, and every Tuesday and Thursday, Pickle Ball is here at the BIC Center from 9:30 to 11:30. Library Board Meeting at 7 Thursday evening at the library.
Friday, B-I Fit from 9 to 11. Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program here at the BIC Center from 10 to 11. Over at the health center there’s an eye clinic from 9 to 4. Call 2275 to sign up. Friday evening, the Wildlife club has a meeting on the calendar for 5:30 at the Peaine Township Hall.
Saturday, B-I Fits hours are 8:30 to 10:30 in the morning. Lego Club at the library at 1. Self Defense class at 5 at the Peaine Township Hall. Here at the BIC Center, two movies—a pair of really interesting documentaries: Showing at 4 it’s Muderball—the story of full contact rugby played by paraplegics in wheelchairs. It’s rated R. At 7, it’s Apollo 11—the story of our first trip to set foot on the moon. It’s rated G and, besides the great story of the mission, it includes all sorts of 70 mm film from the mission that you’ve probably never seen before. Concession stand will be open all day Saturday with treats both for the shows and you island adventures.
Sunday, services at Holy Cross, the Christian Church and the Lighthouse fellowship. Details are on the calendar. Also Sunday, there’s a C-O-A volunteer appreciation meal at the B-I-C-S. Kathie’s slow cooled roast beef is on the menu. It’ll be yummy. All are invited. Discounted prices for seniors and kids.
Looking ahead to next week, 4th and 5th graders are off for their Camp Hayo Wenta Ha adventure. The high ropes course, climbing wall and other challenges await, and there are rumors of a large foot prints in the woods around camp. Will the students meet challenge? We’ll know at the end of next week. Monday, Dr. Newcomb is in at the Health Center. Tuesday, a C-P-R class is being offered by E-MS at the Health Center. Are you C-P-R certified? Need an update? Here’s your chance. Also Tuesday at 5, the Joint Township Telecommunications Committee meets at school at 5. Exercise opportunities include B-I Fit at B-I-C-S on Monday 9 to 11 and 3:30 to 5 and Tuesday 5:30 to 8:30. Pickleball at the BIC Center Tuesday 9:30 to 11:30 and Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program 10 to 11 on Tuesday.

Summer hours are coming to your BIC Center on May 20th. Opening times will be 9 to 9 Monday through Saturday, 9 to 5 on Sundays. And with that comes the need for additional staffing at the BIC Center. If you are interested, get your resume and a letter of interest to Nick De Laat by the 19th. You can drop it by the BIC Center or email it to info at BIC Center dot org. And, don’t forget to put the first Annual Pickleball tournament on your calendar. It’s June 2nd. Sign up to play by May 26th.
