This year’s event will be in Gene Masta’s beautiful gardens surrounding the old Lifesaving station that once stood at Whiskey Point…and that is now his summer home. Strolling dinner, music, libations, raffles and both silent and live auctions will add to the fun of mingling with your island friends in the Secret Garden.

BIRTHDAYS:  John  McNeil, Beth Ann Lucas, Ed Troutman and Mike Eicher arew all celebrating today. Happy Birthday to Beth Ann, Mike, Ed, amd John and, if we missed you on our list, Happy Birthday to you, too, from all of us at W-V-B-I and your Beaver Island Community Center.

TRAFFIC:  None, nada, zip…still, let’s be careful out there.

ON THIS DAY in 1965, Bob Dylan feels like changing things up at the premier showcase of his musical genre, the Newport Folk Festival. The 24-year-old takes the stage with an electric guitar and a rock band, and as an amplified version of ‘Maggie’s Farm’ blasts out, popular music is changed forever.

MERRIAM-WEBSTER WORD OF THE DAY: extradite (verb) [EK-struh-dyte] which means to send someone who has been accused of a crime to the state or country that has jurisdiction to try them for that crime. Extradite and its related noun extradition are both ultimately Latin in origin: their source is tradition-, tradition, meaning “the act of handing over.” (The word tradition, though centuries older, has the same source; consider tradition as something handed over from one generation to the next.) While extradition and extradite are of 19th century vintage, the U.S. Constitution, written in 1787, addresses the idea in Article IV: “A person charged in any State with treason, felony, or other crime, who shall flee from justice, and be found in another State, shall on demand of the executive authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having jurisdiction of the crime.”

Now, to wrap up for this for Beaver Island Monday

Here’s a thought for the from Sir Walter Raleigh: “What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.”

On a lighter note: Why did the squireel cross the road?  Because he heard the ballet was performing the Nutcracker.

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Monday, July 25th. I’m Kevin Boyle reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day—and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever?  And, thanks for listening.
