In our sports and competition report this morning, we have news on the Northern Lights League Basketball rankings going into the tournament this weekend. The Beaver Island boys squad is ranked second behind Maplewood Baptist and ahead of Mackinaw. The girls are ranked fourth. The rankings mean the girls play their first tournament game Friday afternoon up in Escanaba with the boys playing first on Saturday. The teams leave for the tournament Friday morning. Go Islanders!
Don’t forget about the ice fishing contest coming up this weekend on Lake G. It’s a free fishing weekend, so no license required. There are both kids and adult divisions with a ten dollar entry fee for the adults. Sign up at Powers Hardware. Check out the Community Calendar or call Levi for more info. The contest is organized by the Beaver Island Wildlife Club.

And, last but not least, Pickelball is back on the court here at the BIC Center. After last Thursday’s brutal competition the play today at 9:30 is sure to be exciting. That’s if the teams are able to make it through the bitter cold to the matches. We’ll have a score report tomorrow morning.

President Trump’s 2019 budget outline is out and Great Lakes funding is cut again. But as Great Lakes Today’s Elizabeth Miller reports, politicians vow to fight back.

At our website, we’ve tried to include everything, but if we’ve missed your event you can easily add it yourself by using the handy “Post Your Event” button in the upper right of the calendar or by sending an email with the details to calendar@wvbi.net<mailto:calendar@wvbi.net>. And, we can make it easy for your events to show up in a nice calendar on your website, too, so you only have to post them once. Your website can show only your events or those plus other categories from the calendar that you choose.

To help coordinate the events we’ve taken the major events for Summer 2018 and compiled them into a nifty little Celebrate Summer 2018 online calendar. Just point your browser at summer.wvbi.net to get the lowdown on everything planned so far for next summer. Then check back from time to time as more events will be added as dates are firmed up.

Still no delays to report on Beaver Island.

Hey, let’s be careful out there. Especially in the school zone.

To Lucas, Sophia and all our listeners, your real friends are those that can hear you even when you don’t speak.

On a lighter note, a child asks his parents for a dog on Christmas. They reply that they won’t be getting a dog, but they will get a turkey.!!!

That’s the WVBI Community Calendar for Tuesday February 13th, 2018.

I’m Greg Doig at WVBI‚ the Voice of Beaver Island. Make today the best day ever, and thank you for listening!
