Beaver Island Radio Players
Jacque LaFreniere is looking for anyone interested in forming a sub group of the Beaver Island Community Players… one that would perform for the radio only? She’s thinking of using the old time radio scripts available free on www.simplyscripts.com and maybe performing once a month, to be taped for the radio—or we might even do them live like they did in the old days. No stage required, no memorization, minimal (like maybe 2) rehearsals and then do it is Jacque’s plan. Of course we love the idea here at WVBI. If you are interested, you can respond to Jacque’s post on the forum, email jacquel@tds.net or call 448-2220. The plan is to do the first one in January, and sort of like a book club, the group could take turns picking the play for the next month.
Transit Closing
Transit will maintain their new normal business hours during the holidays, except for Thursday, December 24 to Sunday, December 27 and Friday, January 1-Sunday, January 3. The new normal hours are 1230 to 1630, according to Greg’s notes, which translates to 12:30 to 4:30 in the afternoon for us civilians.
Medical Center
Flu shots are available October 1 at the Health Center. If you are interested in nasal vaccines for children, please let us know. Medicare and many insurance plans cover the cost of vaccines, but you should check your coverage as plans vary. Call 448-2275 to make an appointment or for more information. I got my shot there about a month ago from Sue and she gave me a neat cartoon bandaid—so don’t miss your chance to get one of those. Seriously, if you haven’t had your flu shot yet and don’t have a medical reason not to receive one, do your part for the community and get your tail down to the med-center (or somewhere) and get your shot. My shot protects you and your shot protects me.
Sporting News
Now through the end of the season [Ends 12/31] Deer checks are being conducted by Jacque LaFreniere, 448-2220. Patches are available for successful hunters. Data is being collected on both bucks and does. It is shared with the DNR and helps determine the health of the herd and future management.
The Beaver Island Wildlife Club has just initiated a new web site with information about the Club and Beaver Island Hunting and Fishing information. Check it out at beaverislandwildlifeclub.org.
On the Forum, Joddy Crosswhite has noted that every year we hold the ice classic to guess when the buoy will fall in the water. He suggests that this year we could have an extra ice classic by guessing when the buoy can even be put in. Should we do it? Let us know at programming at wvbi dot net.

If you were planning on doing your final Christmas shopping at the resale shop, I’ve got bad news. They are closed through Christmas. But they open up next week on their normal days (which are Thursday through Saturday—except on Friday, New Years Day.
After you open your Christmas presents, how about taking a look around the house and figuring out what you don’t need nymore. You can bring that down to the resale shop during their regular hours. They need clean winter clothing for men, women, and children. Furniture, tools, and kitchen wares are also always needed. They thank you for the support that you have given them this year. They’ve have earned money that will help equip our Fire Department and EMS—and they equipped WVBI with our emergaamcy alert system, which can be used by emergency authorities to alert the entire island in the event of a fire or other emergency on the island.
Starting in January the Beaver Island Branch of Charlevoix State Bank will be starting their winter hours. The hours for January, February, March and April will be Tuesday and Friday from 9am until 2pm. The bank will be closed on January 1st for the New Years Day holiday.
