North Central Michigan College (NCMC) will receive nearly $6 million in state funding for two projects: a $3.465 million capital outlay for the Skilled Trades Education Pathways (STEP) Center and a $2.5 million initiative for a dental hygiene clinic. These investments aim to expand educational opportunities in high-demand fields and strengthen the talent pipeline for Northern Michigan employers. The STEP Center will enhance capacity for skilled trades training, while the dental hygiene program will address workforce shortages and provide high-wage career opportunities.
Michigan deer hunters will face several changes for the 2026 whitetail season, including new antlerless hunting dates, a shorter muzzleloader season, and the elimination of the Lower Peninsula’s limited firearms zone. The Michigan Natural Resources Commission approved these changes to manage the deer population while maintaining hunting opportunities. The changes also include limits on universal antlerless deer licenses and adjustments for Upper Peninsula hunters. The full 2026 deer regulations, including deer management unit boundaries, license requirements, equipment restrictions and bag limits, are available through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
