From our Langford Family Studios on America’s Emerald Isle, this is the W-V-B-I Community Calendar Report for Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025. |
ANNC: First some news…
The Michigan DNR is asking for public input on two proposals for Beaver Island. The first would expand deer hunting by adding 20 extra days of antlerless-only firearm season, aimed at controlling deer populations and simplifying rules. The second plan covers 240 acres of state land, with selective timber harvests to restore forest diversity and improve wildlife habitat. Residents can submit comments online or by emailing DNR biologist Jeremy Wood through mid-October. An open house to discuss these proposals is set for Sept. 29 at the Beaver Island Community Center.
The Lady Islanders played a great game both Friday and Saturday against Big Bay de Noc. They held their own on Friday but unfortunately lost the game. The scores were close with it being 19-25, 19-25, 20-25. On Saturday they started out strong winning the first match 26-24, however, couldn’t continue their streak as Big Bay won the next three matches. Final scores were 26-24, 24-26, 12-25, and 20-25.
The Islanders soccer team faced tough opponents in back-to-back games, losing 5-1 to Big Bay De Noc and 2-0 to the Black Bears. Despite the losses, the team showed great determination and executed strategies quite well, with great efforts by all and goalkeeper Lucas making 25 saves against the Black Bears.

BIRTHDAYS: Abigail Hart, John McCafferty Jr., Demetrios Richards, and Collin McGee are on our list today. Happy Birthday to Abigail, John, Demetrios, and Collin, and if we missed you on the list, Happy Birthday to you too from everyone at WVBI and your Beaver Island Community Center! ANNC: TRAFFIC: No delays inbound or outbound to the airports. The island beltway is running smoothly with no bridge delays. But let’s be careful out there—especially in the school zone. ANNC: On this date in 1875, Billy the Kid is arrested for the first time after stealing a basket of laundry. He later broke out of jail and roamed the American West, eventually earning a reputation as an outlaw and murderer and a rap sheet that allegedly included 21 murders. ANNC: Our Merriam-Webster Word of the Catch-22 typically refers to a difficult situation for which there is no easy or possible solution. In the narrowest use of the term, it refers to a problematic situation for which the only solution is denied by a circumstance inherent in the problem or by a rule. // I’m in a catch-22: to get the job, I need experience, but how do I get experience if I can’t get the job?
ANNC: Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Tuesday… ANNA: Here’s a thought for the day from C.S. Lewis again, who wrote, “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” ANNC: On a lighter note… have you ever noticed that all the equipment looking for intelligent life is pointing away from Earth? ANNC: That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar Report for this Beaver Island Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025. I’m Greg Doig reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios, wishing you a great day and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
