Now, some news… The B-I-C-S robotics team B-I robot is back from its competition this weekend in Kingsford, Michigan. They brought home a Gracious Professionalism award, which recognizes the team’s commitment to that core value of the FIRST competition. According to team members, gracious professionalism means helping out other teams when you can and they need it—even though you will be competing against them. The team gave a number of examples to judges of where they had done that. They said it also means looking for ways to use the skills of the team in the community. The team explained to judges that the team had done this by making and donating bird house kits for sale by the Community Center and Historical Society and by promoting travel to the island at team events, among other things. The team had a record of four alliance wins and eight losses and wound up ranked 24th out of 34 teams at the event. A reminder that the beloved Community Easter Brunch is back after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus. But, given the big range in scheduled church times now, it will be on Easter Saturday instead of Sunday…so on Saturday, April 16th. Start time is 11:30. Pancake, scrambled eggs, sliced ham, Lil Gregg’s breakfast casserole, and baked French toast casserole will be provided. Bring a side dish or fruit if you wish. Everyone is welcome. No need to dress up. COVID-19 data from the state released last Wednesday continues to show low numbers overall, but is showing a slight uptick in new cases. Experts say that may be a function of spring break travel as well as the arrival of a latest variant in Michigan. Our usual summaries are posted on our COVID-19 Info page if you’d like to see the data. No new reports from the Health Center—other than a reminder that second round boosters are now available. Call the Health Center to sign up. Next update from the state comes tomorrow afternoon. |

BIRTHDAYS: Bailey McDonough, Melissa Coffell and Theresa Sirvaitis are all celebrating today. Happy Birthday to Theresa, Melissa and Bailey, and, if we missed you on the list, Happy Birthday to you too from all of us at W-V-B-I and your Beaver Island Community Center. |
|
TRAFFIC: None, nada, zip. But let’s be careful out there. |

ON THIS DAY in 1976, just days after forming Apple Computer Company with his friend Steve Jobs, computer hobbyist Steve Wozniak hand-builds and offers to the public a new machine boasting a 1MHz CPU and 4KB standard memory, dubbing it the Apple I. |
|
WORD OF THE DAY: zoomorphic (adjective) [zoh-uh-MOR-fik] which means “having the form of an animal.” Zoomorphic comes from zôion, meaning “animal,” and -morphic, an adjective combining form meaning “having (such) a form” and from Greek morphē, “form.” |

Now, to wrap up for this for Beaver Island Monday… |
|
Here’s a thought for the day: Little by little, one travels far. On a lighter note: A guy named Herb once gave me some sage cooking advice and I’ve been stewing on it ever since. |

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar for this Beaver Island Monday, April 11th, 2022. I’m Kevin Boyle reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios wishing you a great day—and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And, thanks for listening. |
