Munson Healthcare says 33 people have been treated and six hospitalized following Thursday’s F-16 crash in Grand Traverse County. The Texas Air National Guard jet went down near Interlochen after its pilot safely ejected. Most of those treated were first responders exposed to hydrazine, a hazardous chemical released at the crash site., although a bird strike has been mentioned as the possible cause.

Michigan is marking its first P-FAS Awareness Week as the state continues dealing with hundreds of sites contaminated by the so-called “forever chemicals.” Regulators say about 350 sites have groundwater contamination above state criteria, although large-scale cleanup remains difficult and expensive. The state has made progress controlling some sources and treating drinking water. The state’s PFAS map shows no identified sites on Beaver Island. Four Beaver Island organizations are among those featured in the Charlevoix County Community Foundation’s new “Pick a Project” program. Donors can choose among vetted local projects, including efforts from the Health Center, Historical Society, District Library and Tunes. Donations will be accepted through November 15th. #Fundraising
Apples are coming in across Beaver Island, with many of the Island’s old heritage trees now heavy with fruit—and some starting to drop their crop. It appears to be a good apple year beyond the Island, too. Michigan growers say this year’s statewide crop is about average in size but producing larger, high-quality fruit despite a long stretch of spring frosts. Michigan produces about a billion pounds of apples in a typical year.
The Little Traverse Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help rebuild boardwalk at Little Sand Bay Nature Preserve Tuesday and Wednesday. Work will run from 10 to 4, replacing about 150 feet of deteriorated boardwalk. Volunteers should contact the Conservancy to sign up. #Environment #Volunteerism
C-M-U has set the date for their annual Community Appreciation dinner. It will be on the 30th starting at 5:00. All are invited. In addition to a nice meal, there’ll be games and, of course, an opportunity to say goodbye to summer with your fellow Islanders. #IslandEvents

Peaine Township Planning Commission meets Monday evening at 5:00. A-A meets Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6:00. JTAC has a special meeting Thursday at 4:30. It’s their regular meeting, but rescheduled to a later date. Wildlife Club meets Thursday as well at 7:00.

On the fun front today…
Monday, there’s Summer Gentle Flow Yoga in the theater at the BIC Center at 9:30. COA has Cardio Drumming at 10:00 and Art Therapy at 11:00 at Peaine Township Hall. At 11:00, the Senior Digital Café at the library has a session on Canva, a powerful but easy to use graphic design program. Use it to make a great poster or custom card. Also, at 11:00, Summer Chair Yoga in the Hangout at the BIC Center, and at 5:00 Monday Funday at the BIC Center is an Artist Workshop on Needle Felting. And, don’t forget, Monday evenings are All You Can Eat Pizza and Salad night at the Beachcomber.
Tuesday. at 9:00 there is Pickleball on the Peaine Township Courts. At 9:30, there’s Chair Strength Training up in the Hangout at the BIC Center. C-O-A has COA Cardio Drumming at 10:00 and Art Therapy at 11:00 at Peaine Township Hall. Also, at 10:00, Babes & Toddlers mix it up at the library. Tuesday evening, it’s trivia time at the BIC Center. Let’s Get Quizzical starts at 6:00. Sign your team up at tickets dot bic center dot org. And, at 8:05m P-M, the sun will pass above the Earth’s equator marking the Fall Equinox.

Wednesday, there’s Summer Restorative Yoga at 9:00 and Summer Therapeutic Chair Yoga at 11:00, and at 1:00 there is Afternoon Bingo all of those at the BIC Center up in the Hangout. At 3:30, the Lego Club is on at the library. At 4:00 the Amik Cultural Preservation Center will be open. And evening Pickleball remains on the calendar. That starts at 7:00 on the outdoor courts at Peaine Township Park.
Thursday, there’s Pickleball at Peaine Township Park at 9:00. There’s COA Cardio Drumming at 10:00 and Art Therapy at 11:00, both at Peaine Township Hall. There’s Women’s Bible Study at 10:00 a.m. at the BI Christian Church and at 10:30, there’s Senior Tai Chi at the BIC Center. The Weekly Bocce Ball roll is on at 4:00 on the courts at the Peaine Township Park.
Friday, there’s Senior and Vets Coffee and Donuts from 8:30 to 10:30 in the Welcome Center at the BIC Center. At 9:00 A-M Pickleball Outdoors on the Peaine Township courts. Back at the BIC Center at 9:30, there’s Chair Strength Training up in the Hangout. Also, Friday evening at B-I-C-S, the Islander volleyball and soccer squads take on Mackinac Island in games starting at 5:00.

The 3:00 show is Toy Story 5. Woody, Buzz and the gang take on a electronic tablet in the latest from Pixar. It’s rated PG. Then at 6:00, It’s Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. Avatar Aang learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands. It’s rated PG-13. Saturday nights are Prime Rib Night at the Shamrock. And there’s Pickleball outside starting at 7:00 on the township courts.
