(9and19news.com by Sheldon Krause) Summary:
A Northern Michigan family’s lawsuit against Manistee County could soon reach the U.S. Supreme Court, potentially triggering the return of millions of dollars to property owners across the state. The case involves the Koetter family, who lost their home in 2021 over a $4,000 tax debt, only to see the county keep the entire $100,000 generated from the property’s subsequent auction. While the Michigan Supreme Court previously sided with the county, a favorable ruling from the nation’s highest court could invalidate Michigan’s current forfeiture statutes, which reportedly prevent 95% of homeowners from recovering surplus proceeds due to strict filing deadlines.

On this day in 1493 Christopher Columbus, during his first voyage to the Americas, mistook manatees for mermaids and recorded the sighting in his ship’s journal.
Our (Merriam Webster)Word of the Day is  mephitic (muh fit ik) – Mephitic describes something that’s noxious, poisonous, or foul-smelling. Often used for gases or environments, the word conveys an atmosphere that is actively harmful. It’s a great word choice for when “unpleasant” doesn’t go far enough.
Example from dictionary.com
The abandoned well emitted a mephitic odor, hinting at the poisonous gas trapped below.

Here’s a thought for the day from Bruce Lee – “I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.”
On a lighter note… Do you know the last thing my father said to me before he kicked the bucket? “Son, watch how far I can kick this bucket.”
