First some news…

The Island was blessed with 4 to 5 inches of snow over the weekend and it looks like more is on the way both for the Island and the near-shore mainland.  We could see another two inches tonight with areas across getting up to a foot. There’s an area accumulation forecast map in today’s script online.

The Island’s newest local business had a special opening on Saturday. Clarion Vitality is next to Whiskey Point Brewing Company down by the market. They have all sorts of great Christmas gifts in stock, and it is amazing to see how they’ve transformed the space.  Very elegant.  Check their website for additional opening times.

Also on the Island, Paul Welke won the drawing for the BIC Center W-V-B-I 2025 Raffle.  He’s now the proud owner of a road ready electric golf cart.  He purchased the ticket about an hour before the dinner.  Congrats to Paul and to Angel (who bought the ticket but put his name on it). There’s a video of the drawing and Paul’s reaction on the BIC Center and WVBI Facebook pages.

Meanwhile, Paddington Bear is no longer missing.  He’s made it home to River.

But, the Queen of Hearts is still hiding at the Elks Club. The ticket drawn Saturday was Hokey, a pseudo-name for Scott Hirshey and Dick Gokey! They picked envelope #46 and found the Jack of ♦️. They will receive a $250 consolation prize. The pot ended at $58,585.

BIRTHDAYS: Kerry Smith and Braxton Hart celebrate today. Happy Birthday to Kerry and Braxton and, if we missed you on the list, Happy Birthday to you too from everyone at WVBI and your Beaver Island Community Center.

TRAFFIC: The W-V-B-I virtual octo-copter reports…no delays inbound or outbound to the airports. The Island Beltway is running smoothly and there are no bridge delays. But, we need to learn to drive on snow and ice again and the roads are super slick so, as always, let’s be careful out there, especially in the school zone.

On this date in 1955, Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus. Sitting in the front row of the “colored” section, she stays seated when the driver orders her to move. Her arrest ignites the modern civil rights movement. The very bus she rides that day is now preserved at The Henry Ford Museum, where visitors can see her seat five rows back on the right side. Two years later, in 1957, Parks moves to Detroit, where she continues her civil rights work for decades until her passing in 2005. And speaking of The Henry Ford, on this date in 1913 it’s namesake introduces the assembly line, reducing the time it took to build a Model T from 12 hours to two and a half.

Our Word of the Day is Advent (noun) [ADD-vent], which means the arrival or beginning of something notable. Capitalized, it refers to the season of preparation and hope during the four Sundays before Christmas, the first of which this year was yesterday. It marks a time of waiting for the coming of Christ. Generally, it can refer to any big change that reshapes daily life. The word comes from Latin adventus (ad-VEN-tooss), meaning “arrival,” from ad (ahd) “to” and venire (veh-NEE-reh) “come.”Top of FormBottom of Form

Now, to wrap up for this Beaver Island Monday, December 1st

Here’s a thought for the day from Rosa Parks: “It takes more than one person to bring about peace – it takes all of us.”

On a lighter note…

Why do Santa’s helpers go to therapy? To help their elf esteem.

That’s the W-V-B-I Community Calendar Report for this Beaver Island Monday, December 1st, 2025. I’m Kevin Boyle reporting from W-V-B-I’s Langford Family Studios Wishing you a great day and asking you: why not go ahead and make it the best day ever? And thanks for listening.
