COVID-19

WVBI COVID-19 Update for February 15, 2022

Nothing new from the health Center this morning on the COVID-19 front.  No new tests. They have none pending. There reports show three folks tested positive on the island in the last two weeks—with the positives at the far end of the window.  Here’s the latest data:

Latest COVID-19 report from the state shows new cases continuing to drop quickly. There were an average of 1,793 new cases a day statewide over the three days covered by the report and 20 deaths a day.  That pushes the seven-day averages to 2,660 for new cases and 77 for deaths, including reclassifications.  There were 48 new cases a day in our region and four total deaths. None of the new cases were in Charlevoix. The deaths were in Antrim, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Otsego with one each. Hospital utilization data continues to look good. Down overall and for COVID-19 for the long term. No change locally.

At the School Board meeting last night members adopted a three-level plan for dealing with masking going forward.  That’s in the wake of the Health Department lifting its mask mandate that left the board with no choice but to require masks.  The new policy will work like this: The lowest level doesn’t require masks except when students are working in close proximity for extended periods where they can’t maintain social distancing. Other mitigation efforts like cohorts for the upper and lower grades, sanitizing and social distancing will continue. The mid-level adds masking when the students are assembled in large groups, but not when seated in the classroom.  The highest level is essentially what the school has now. Level applied will depend on current conditions. The health department masking requirement ends Thursday at 11:59, so the school will move to their lowest level first thing Friday and, with limited exceptions, the masks are off.  The full policy is posted on our COVID-19 Update page: https://wvbi.biccenter.org/bics-adaptive-covid-19-response-plan-general-masking-requirement-off-for-now-friday
