The Health Center is reporting another four tests run with two back positive. That brings the current positive count to 14. Nothing new from the State, but our local Health Department yesterday reported 23 news cases in Charlevoix County in the last week, or about 3 a day, and no deaths. The full report follows the break line below.
Although the COVID variant popping up on the island isn’t, known, health department officials around the state say that the B-A-5 subvariant is fueling most of the resurgence in COVID-19 cases around the state. The variant seems to duck both natural immunity and vaccines, at least for some. Beaumont Health, one of the biggest hospital operators in the state, reports that one in three of its COVID patients had been both vaccinated and boosted. But, officials say that vaccinations still greatly lessens the impact of the virus and that they remain the best defense against winding very sick or dead.
