Firearm Deer Season

It’s firearm season for deer on the island.  Check in with the Beaver Island Wildlife Club to learn about about our quality deer management program and for a deer check after you get your deer.  (Your reward is a hunters patch from the club.) Help us keep CWD off the island.  Turn in your deer head for checks and never transport unprocessed deer or deer heads or bones to the island.

Talking Threads Quilt Guild @ Peaine Township Hall

Community Thanksgiving Dinner @ Gregg Fellowship Center

Turkey DinnerA true community favorite — the community Thanksgiving Day feast at the Beaver Island Gregg Fellowship Center.  Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m with turkey, gravy, stuffing, potatoes, beverages  and more all provided by the Beaver Island Christian Church.  Bring a side dish or dessert if you can. Come hungry, leave as stuffed as the turkey!

Island Christmas Shopping @ Downtown Beaver Island

This year, our Christmas Shopping Event it will be held on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. That is a good time to kick off the Christmas season, and is also “Small Business Saturday.” All participating businesses will have sales and specials. Some will offer door prizes; most will have goodies and treats for shoppers.
Participants so far include:

*Powers DoItBest Hardware: 1~5PM; Santa will be here for pictures with your pets to benefit The Friends of Beaver Island Animals; lots of sales and special prices; Christmas decorations will be out for sale; many new gift ideas; hourly drawing for door prizes; lots of cookies, coffee and warm punch
*Beaver Gems/Shipwreck Shirts: hours 11~4 with special prices on lots of items, and treats for shoppers
*The Blue Pearl
*Shamrock Pub and Restaurant

*The Beaver Island Community Center has once again generously offered the use of their lobby for individuals to sell their wares. So far. Laura Green with merchandise Flat Tail Furs, Lisa Moyers with candles, Heidi Vigil with her offerings, Marlene Weiser’s island videos (view49782@vimeo.com), and a group of young artists from Beaver Island Community School selling decorated and embellished ornaments as a fundraiser for Heifer International (www.heifer.org). I understand they have already purchased two llamas and a flock of ducks!

Check with individual businesses for specifics. We’ll post more information as it becomes available. Please come out for a fun day of shopping and showing support for island businesses!

Lego Club @ Beaver Island District Library

Starting this Saturday, Jan. 6th, the Lego Club will meet every Saturday at 1 p.m.  Themes will be posted for each Saturday.  All are invited to participate…kids, teens, adults.

  • Jan. 6th- Build a Frosty Vacation and watch a Lego Movie!
  • Jan. 13th- Build your Dream Home
  • Jan. 20th- What would your Minecraft Home Base look like? Build it!
  • Jan. 27th- What would you want to be when you grow up? Build your dream job! And we will run another Lego movie!

Snacks and fun times. Come on it from the cold and join us each Saturday at 1 p.m.

Are you a Lego fan?  Want to learn more about building with Legos.  Just want to have some fun with friends on Saturday?  If you answered yes to any of these you might want to head to the Beaver Island District Library on Saturdays at 1:00 for the weekly Lego Club session.  It’s a Lego bin full of fun.
